Andrew Introduction / Changes Coming Your Way

Hi, I’m Andrew, thought it might be time I formally introduce myself ;-)

Many of you have probably had some contact with me either on our website’s Habla or your own. I joined the Habla team back in February/March of 2009 while attending the University of Michigan as a full time undergrad. My purpose on the founding team has been to provide the best customer support to current and perspective users. As a company, I would like us to be know for our support and dedication to customer service – a company with real people behind our website. That being said, your feedback these past few months has been absolutely essential to our product development and growth. We have been working all hours of the day to turn Habla from a cool side project into a thriving company.

The past month has been a big push for us, we are working hard to create something our customers want. In the next week or so we’ll be releasing lots of new stuff your way, including a revamp of the branding and name (as Ben mentioned earlier). Keep an eye out for our update email.

Remember, you can contact me at anytime at andrew@hab.la. I love receiving your feedback and comments about our service, especially when Habla changes the way people think about their website.

Another cool, unexpected bonus of our hard work – receiving invites from customers to websites for a quick chat on their new or well situated Habla.

I will be in touch through our blog and Habla, keep well!

Yours Truly,

Andrew (Once the Hablador now the Olarkee, or something like that…)

As you might have noticed, Hab.la has changed!

I just wanted to let you guys know that we are frantically testing a new set of features to push out to our loyal users.

While most of these features will mostly benefit new users, a few will make it easier for existing users to chat with visitors to their websites using a variety of IM protocols.

To clarify, the new look was pushed out a little earlier than planned :-) and we are still rushing to work the kinks out.

New Javascript Released

I pushed out the latest version of the Hab.la JavaScript tonight. (I actually have been slowing rolling it out over the past few hours, but it is completely deployed now)

Before we do any deploy we test the JavaScript with IE6, IE7, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. It’s funny how you need to make simple tweaks for each browser and so the Javascript will compress correctly. Funny in that so much time is essentially wasted because Microsoft didn’t listen to W3C standards.

The new JavaScript should be completely backwards compatible with the old setup. Please let us know if you did a lot of customization on Hab.la, and your customizations no longer work.

The most interesting aspect of the new JavaScript is it’s support for dynamically loading themes and plugins, and the ability for Hab.la users to customize their Hab.la windows without having to write JavaScript. (We will be rolling out a control panel for managing these features soon).

In any case the transition should be relatively transparent for most users. We will be adding documentation on the new features this week.

New Jabber Backend pushed to production!

The new backend jabber server is here, and let’s just say that I did the final push while using GRPS over AT&T, while sitting at a few airports, VIM is amazing on a low bandwidth connection. [Actually it’s amazing all the time, but I digress.]

Now that the new backend is up I’ll have some time for the smaller tweaks I had been putting off.

Happy Holiday from Hab.la :-)

Oh yea.. and if you run into any bugs or problems with the server, let me know ASAP. I did pretty extensive testing, but it’s not too hard to miss something here and there.
